How does virtual theater work?

Members in virtual casts will rehearse together and in small groups with Miss Tammy for 6 weeks. The cast will perform virtually on ZOOM near the end of rehearsals. PYT will record and edit virtual performances, cast member music videos and different types of performance videos are recorded while social distancing. Then PYT will post edited videos on our YouTube channel for family, friends and the public to watch. Watching performances is free but voluntary donations are greatly appreciated.

What sets PYT Apart from Other Virtual Theaters?

This is not our first time at the online video production rodeo. PYTs Technical Director and Co-founder, Craig Witter, raises the level of all our virtual theater video programs. Mr. Craig is a national award winning videographer with decades of professional video production skills, experience and equipment.

2020 Originally Scheduled 2020 IN-PERSON Summer Camps

in Sweet Bee Theater

Switched to All-Online Theater Activities

Due to COVID-19

Letter to PYT Summer Camper Families Who Signed Up for

In-person Camps Which Were Cancelled Due To COVID-19

Hello Summer Camper Parent,

Pittsboro Youth Theater (PYT) hopes that your family is healthy and making the best of this crazy summer. Please accept our apologies for us needing to make the following changes to our summer camp line up.

First please understand that we do not want to make these changes; our organization's life is dedicated to enjoying and sharing the wonderful experience of live theater with children. It's now clear that we cannot safely proceed with 1-week, mid-june summer camp(s). Other scheduled camps will likely change also. We will not host a camp that is not safely doable, legal and enjoyable. The latest NC Phase 2 camp requirements, if we felt they met our safety standards, are too strict for theater camps to be enjoyable.

We will apply all previously paid registration fees that were paid against future fees for participation in PYT camps or other theater camps and cast memberships.

This because in-person theater camps would not be safe or joyful for participants and audiences given the science of COVID-19 spread as currently impacting North Carolina.

See PYT's new virtual theater

activities for kids this summer the top of this page.

Please complete the application, above, to register in virtual summer theater activities, and we'll see you in July. See above for information, updates, or please call or email Tammy Matthews with any questions or concerns. PYT is still active online and a good number of virtual theater entertainment videos and audio podcasts are currently being produced with 6 of our theater casts.

Those who previously paid deposits with their in-person 2020 summer camp registrations can apply their credit on the above Virtual Summer Theater Activities application. Or, we'll keep your  credit on our books until safety, governmental restrictions, and your families schedule permit your child's participation in an enjoyable PYT theater virtual play, summer camp or school-year cast in the future.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed, and we'll get back to you to confirm.

Thank You Very Much and Stay Safe,

Tammy Matthews

Princess Camp

Original Dates:  June 15-19

ages 7-12

Campers will rehearse and perform "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" live on stage in Sweet Bee Theater.

Where do the twelve dancing princesses disappear to each night?  And how do they wear out their dancing slippers by morning?  The king tries in vain to find out; ten princes try and fail.  Finally, a young soldier (with the aid of a magic cloak which makes him invisible) follows the princesses to a mysterious underground kingdom where they dance the night away under a hypnotic spell.

Faery Camp

Original Dates: June 22-26

ages 7-12

Campers will rehearse and perform "Faery Free for All" live on stage in Sweet Bee Theater.

Scotland’s magical faery folk, both friendly and fearsome, gather in a moonlit meadow to learn from each other how to be naughty and nice.  A variety of pixies, brownies, and sprites tussle with a banshee, wraith, bogles and trows, while two teenage human captives plan their escape.  The combined forces of the Summer and Winter Courts are no match for mortals, though, when the faeries mess with a determined farm wife and a bossy baker.

This rough and tumble, rollicking comedy incorporates two traditional Scottish faery tales:  “The Changeling” and “The Bossy Baker Woman.”  Costumes may be simple or elaborate, and the set and props are minimal.

Campers will rehearse and perform Disney's "Frozen Jr." live on stage in Sweet Bee Theater.

The enchanting modern classic from Disney is ready for your Broadway Junior stars! Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production.

A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

Jungle Camp

July 20 - 24

ages 7-12

Campers will rehearse and perform "Jungle Book" live on stage in Sweet Bee Theater.

Come hear the incredible non-musical tale of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves.  With the help of his friends — the bear Baloo, the panther Bagheera and the python Kaa — Mowgli learns the ways of the jungle.  Some of the jungle boy’s adventures are gripping, like the time he encounters the hooded cobra who guards the treasure vault in the Deserted City.  Others, like the coconut-tossing monkeys who take him prisoner, are hysterical.  But the jungle is also dangerous, for it is the home of Shere Khan, the man-eating tiger who has vowed to destroy Mowgli.  With his fawning jackal follower, Shere Khan plots to take control of the jungle.  Mowgli must use all his strength and courage to stop Shere Khan before it is too late.

Alien Camp

July 27 - 31

ages 7-12

Campers will rehearse and perform "The Day Aliens Attached Fairfield" live on stage in Sweet Bee Theater.

Fairfield’s a place where nothing ever happens, at least not since Billy Myers got that nasty papercut a decade ago.  And with the exception of a pair of vain newscasters, a few fringe skywatchers, and a kooky grandfather living in a galactically fantastic past, most townsfolk are okay with their humdrum ways.  Like it or not, though, the winds of change are about to descend on Fairfield faster than a delivery from the town’s famous Flying Saucer Pizza.

A couple of love-struck teens report an alien sighting, and Fairfield finds itself in a frenzy.  Luckily, the members of SAWPE (that’s the Society of Alien Watchers to Protect Earth) are selling tinfoil hats to help protect everyone.
